EcoScraps and Green Urban Lunch Box
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EcoScraps Helped a School Bus Transform into a Greenhouse
PROVO, UT (April 21, 2011)- EcoScraps donated ___ cubic feet of their organic soil to the Green Urban Lunch Box, a 35-foot school bus, to help carry a greenhouse instead of passengers this spring in Salt Lake City.
“We were surprised at the request to provide soil for a bus,” said Daniel Blake, EcoScraps’ CEO and co-founder. “We’ve had requests to sponsor gardens, but this was the first time we’ve been asked to sponsor a bus.”
EcoScraps helped The Green Urban Lunch Box fulfill their mission with the donation of their soil. Their mission is to demonstrate the creative possibility of urban agriculture by promoting local farms, healthy eating and sustainability. They plan to take the bus on visits to schools, farmer’s markets, fairs and other community events. They will focus on educating citizens on producing nutritious food, conserving resources and encouraging self-reliance.
“Our first priority is sustainability and doing what is best for the community,” said The Green Urban Lunch Box’s … “We will freely share information with others trying to make the world a better place.”
Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash, carrots, radishes, melons and a few greens will be growing inside the bus. They will also be operating a small garden that will grow peas, corn, potatoes and more greens.
The Green Urban Lunch Box’s goal is to become self-sufficient. Funding and support will come from the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, advertising space on the bus and consulting with schools and community groups in building their own bus-fields.
