EcoScraps CEO at TEDxBYU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EcoScraps CEO Inspired the Audience at TEDxBYU Event

PROVO, UT (February 15, 2011)- EcoScraps CEO, Daniel Blake, 23, spoke at the TEDxBYU event about how to live an innovative life and how his life experiences led him to EcoScraps Friday, Feb. 11 with world-renowned social entrepreneurs, BYU students, faculty and alumni.

Blake opened his speech with his family motto. He said his family made solutions instead of excuses. He understood the status quo was there to be changed, but learned this was more difficult said than done.

“During the past 23 years I have learned that regardless of the current situation, your current abilities, and resources you always have the choice to make solutions to problems or make excuses for them,” said Blake. “The hardest solutions are the ones that force you to innovate.”

Blake shared personal experiences of overcoming obstacles such as mastering a musical instrument, running for student body president, raising $125,000 for a nonprofit and then the feat of creating EcoScraps.

“Regardless of your age, situation, and abilities; there is always a solution,” said Blake. “You can innovate, challenge and change the status quo.”

Blake said the status quo has been the catalyst in developing their business model for EcoScraps. He discussed the challenges they faced and events that led to creating a business where there is a balance between all stakeholders and not just shareholders, and whose core is environmental responsibility.

“More than anything I want to create a sustainable business,” said Blake. “One that is financially successful, that benefits society and the environment. I want it enough that I am willing to adapt and change on a daily basis.”
